The Addax (Addax nasomaculatus) is a mid-sized African ungulate. It is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon 2 and Zoo Tycoon (Xbox).
Description[]
The addax is a species of antelope native to the Sahara desert in North Africa. Males can reach a height of 115cm (45in) at the shoulder, whilst females are slightly smaller. Both sexes have large, twisting horns that give the Addax the alternative name of Screwhorn antelope. Another alternate name, the White antelope, refers to the Addax's primarily white coat coloration, which turns greyish-brown in winter.
Native to arid desert regions, the addax lives in small mixed-sex herds of up to 20 individuals, lead by a dominant female. It feeds on the grasses and leaves of any available vegetation and notably is able to extract enough moisture from its food that it almost never needs to drink. Predators include lions, cheetahs and African wild dogs, but humans pose a greater threat and, due to unregulated hunting, the addax is one of the world's rarest antelope.
Zoo Tycoon 2[]
The Addax is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon 2, where it is a downloadable animal. In Campaign and Challenge mode, it is unlocked after a zoo reaches 2 stars of fame.
The Addax is a Desert animal. Although it requires water to drink to stay healthy, it doesn't directly drink water out of the water dishes provided for it; instead, it fulfills its thirst requirement by eating grass foods and grazing, making it unique among the land-based animals in Zoo Tycoon 2. They can share an exhibit with the scimitar-horned oryx from the Endangered Species expansion pack.

The addax is a herbivore that will eat Hay and Grass from food dishes and substrate piles.
Enrichment[]
The Addax is only able to use the Salt Lick and Tar Pit as enrichment items.
Shelter[]
Addaxes will use the Shade Structure and Small Stable as shelter.

| The addax is a desert antelope that originally ranged from the western Sahara and Mauritania to Egypt and the Sudan. It now inhabits the southwestern part of the Sahara and is found in lesser numbers across the Red Sea into the Near East. Excessive hunting, severe droughts, and tourist harassment has caused such a dramatic decline in the addax population that it is now endangered. Only one viable population, containing less than 200 animals, still exists in the wild.
A strictly herbivorous, cud-chewing mammal, the addax ranges from 95 to 115 cm (37 to 45 in) high at the shoulder and is yellowish-white in color, with a brown mane and a black patch at the forehead. Both sexes have graceful, ringed horns, wound in an open spiral as long as 89 cm (35 in). Well adapted to the desert, the addax has large hooves for running over sand. By eating succulent leaves and wild watermelons it can live most of its life without drinking water. The addax seeks shelter from the midday sun, sometimes in caves. Fun Facts
