The Javan Rhinoceros, Rhinoceros sondaicus, is a critically endangered species of rhinoceros. It is the rarest of rhinos, with only 35-44 surviving. Its population exclusively resides in Ujung Kulon National Park in Indonesia where they are protected by Rhino Protection Units. It is critically endangered due to mass hunting and deforestation until its population went dangerously low (International Rhino Foundation).

In Zoo Tycoon: Endangered Species, it was difficult to care for. It lived in the tropical rainforest with little dirt, sand and freshwater. In Zoo Tycoon 2: Endangered Species, it has the same biome and is easier to keep. However, it is more expensive. In the original game, it was never successfully bred in captivity. This was revered in the sequel; there is even a scenario dedicated to them instructing the player to breed one.

Zoo Tycoon

The Javan rhino was a bonus animal for Zoo Tycoon and was very similar to the black rhino. It lived in the tropical rainforest biome. It is difficult to care for, but and it requires a lot of trees.
