Trivia not relevant for the game
- The ostrich is a type of bird known as a "ratite"; the name refers to the shape of the bird's sternum.
- Contrary to popular belief, ostriches do not bury their heads in sand to avoid danger. This myth likely began with Pliny the Elder (AD 23–79), who wrote that ostriches "imagine, when they have thrust their head and neck into a bush, that the whole of their body is concealed." This may have been a misunderstanding of their sticking their heads in the sand to swallow sand and pebbles, or, as National Geographic suggests, of the defensive behavior of lying low, so that they may appear from a distance to have their head buried.
- In real life male will create a nest, after that female lays the eggs, and leaves the male, and male will take care of the chicks, like any ratite, but the most curious about ostrcihes is that the female will return to its female flock, and the male will formate its own flock grouping it with its chicks and other male flocks.
- The Somali ostrich (Struthio molybdophanes) was previously considered a subspecies of the common ostrich, but was identified as a distinct species in 2014.
