The pelagic thresher (Alopias pelagicus) is an user-made animal in Zoo Tycoon 2 included in the user-made expansion pack Obsessional Ocean by Miraqua.. It is made using the animations of the blacktip reef shark and coded like most sharks in the game, thus it behaves similarly to them with little to no difference. It is the first thresher shark to have ever released for Zoo Tycoon 2.

In the game, the pelagic thresher resembles its real-life counterpart, with an elongated upper caudal fin and greyish coloration. It feeds on fish and chum, as in other sharks, and uses a few enrichment objects but no shelter. The pelagic thresher, as its name suggests, prefers the pelagic biome as its primary biome. It has a tendency to fight other sharks from its kind or other species with a similar size.

Biography

The pelagic thresher (Alopias pelagicus) is a species of shark in the thresher shark family Alopiidae. This family is characterized by the elongated upper fin lobe, giving it a recognizable look. The pelagic thresher is the smallest species of its kind, reaching only 3 meters in length. It is also often used by humans for various uses, mainly in culinary.

The pelagic thresher, as its name suggests, prefers to live in the open ocean, feeding on several species of fish such as tuna. It is an ovoviviparous animal. Before born, the babies feeds on the unfertilized eggs of their mother. Its jaws are too small to inflict fatal injuries on humans and also more likely flees divers when encountering them. The pelagic thresher is mainly used in Asia for shark fin soup, and its skin is also used for leather in some countries.

Trivia

  • The Obsessional Ocean version of the pelagic thresher is one of the few species of thresher sharks ever released for Zoo Tycoon 2 and also the first thresher shark to have ever released for Zoo Tycoon 2.
