The Quagga is is an extinct subspecies of the modern day zebra and the first unlockable animal in Zoo Tycoon 2.

Zoo Tycoon 2

The Quagga was first introduced in Extinct Animals, and shares its model with the Common zebra. To unlock the Quagga, all Extinct Animals species must be released to the wild. It's fossils can also be excavated at level two fossil hunting.

It's main biome is savannah, although it is compatible with other biomes such as grassland or scrub. Quagga's behave generally like common zebra's, using the same enrichment, shelters and foods.

Breeding

The Quagga can interbreed with the Common zebra; it also behaves like a zebra. It was once thought that when a Quagga mated with a Common Zebra, the child species depended on the species of the male parent; if the male was a Quagga, the child would be a Quagga, whereas a female Quagga parent resulted in the child being a Zebra. Although the offspring of a Zebra-Quagga mating is usually the same species as the father, it isn't always.

User-made animals

Two user-created Quaggas were made before the release of Zoo Tycoon 2: Extinct Animals - SilesianTomcat made one, currently available at Zoo Admin, while Stormy made one, avialable at ZTU.

Trivia

  • In the game, its range is East Africa, but ancient records occur in Southern Africa.
