The Thomson's Gazelle is an animal present in both the base games of Zoo Tycoon and Zoo Tycoon 2. Their animal ID in Zoo Tycoon is 5005.

Zoo Tycoon

In the original Zoo Tycoon, the Thomson's Gazelle costs $500 each and prefers a flat savannah habitat beginning at one hundred, or 10x10, squares. This number increases by 15 per every Thomson's Gazelle. At least ninety five of these squares should consist of savannah terrain, and at least five should be fresh water. At least nine squares should contain Tall Grass, and two squares should contain a rock of any size (small, medium, or large.) They should have a Lean-To, Wood, or Concrete shelter, fences in the exhibit should be high, and they require no toys. If their exhibit is to be sunken, it should be just one level downward. Thomson's Gazelles are herd animals, and thusly enjoy company. At least four are recommended in a habitat. They enjoy hay, and are compatible with Reticulated Giraffes, Hippopotamus, Wildebeest, African Buffalo, Ostrich, Common Zebra, Black Rhinoceros, and Sable Antelope. Their manageability is very easy, and while they cannot climb trees or fences, they can jump low fences. They have a sick chance of five on a scale from two to forty, with two being very low, and forty being very high. Sickness will negatively effect their happiness by -10.

Adults have an attractiveness of five, and the offspring an attractiveness of fifteen. They require no research to obtain. They have thirty crowd shyness, zero strength, and eighty initial happiness.

They have a high reproduction chance, the interval between reproduction is five months, and they will produce one child per reproduction. It takes two months for a young Thomson's Gazelle to grow to adulthood. Their expected lifespan is twelve months, meaning they can reproduce approximately twice in their lifetimes before death. However, their death chance at the end of their expected lifespan is 10, on a scale from ten to ninety, with ten being a low chance, and ninety being a high chance.

Zoo Tycoon 2

In Zoo Tycoon 2, Thomson's Gazelles continue to enjoy the savannah habitat, and still have very low maintenance. They do little to impress guests, having some of the lowest attractiveness to guests in the game, and will earn few donations. However, they do not require much to unlock, only needing 1/2 stars of fame. They will also usually produce children by the third month that they have been present in the player's zoo. They need no enrichment objects, and will be okay with a Wooden Shelter.

Difficulties present with owning Thomson's Gazelles include the fact that they are territorial, and males will fight amongst each other regularly. Extra males should thusly be released regularly. Two females and just one male is a setup that is likely to produce many children and prevent any fights. In addition, Thomson's Gazelles may jump fences while running about their exhibits; make sure to have high fences.

They are compatible with most species.
