The Topi (Damaliscus lunatus) is a mid-sized African ungulate. It is an adoptable animal in Zoo Tycoon (Xbox)
Description[]
The topi is an antelope closely related to wildebeest. Known by a variety of common names, including Tsessebe, it is relatively large for an antelope, with the males weighing up to 137kg and the females being lighter. It is typically a reddish-brown coloration, with a darker marking on its face that resembles a mask. Other distinctive features include a long head, lyrate-shaped horns and a distinct neck hump. There are at least six different subspecies found throughout sub-Saharan Africa, although it is possible these may represent separate species.
Topi are typically found in open grasslands, where they feed almost entirely on grass. Like many antelope, they live in large herds. During the breeding season, males form leks, with a dominant male in the center. He will mate with as many females as he can, whilst also defending his position from rival males. Topi can live for up to 15 years, but their average lifespan is much less. Adult males in particular will often exhaust themselves whilst defending their central position in the lek from rivals, leaving them vulnerable to predators.
Zoo Tycoon (Xbox)[]
The topi is an adoptable animal in the Xbox version of Zoo Tycoon and is available in the base game, although like all antelope, it is absent in the Xbox 360 version. It is available for adoption when a zoo reaches a fame rating of 7.
The topi is a Grassland animal.
